As young leaders, the best impression you can make to your leadership is to run an effective meeting. Managers and leaders are running from meeting to meeting, many of which they leave wondering why they were even attending. Meeting facilitation can be crucial to your early leadership opportunities and growth.
This breakout session will give you an insider’s look at some of the most successful (and not so successful) meetings that Kristen Gorman, MHA, PMP, CPPS has facilitated at Carilion Clinic. She will use her experience and some funny memes to explore this challenging topic. Additionally, you will practice and walk away with some hands-on tips to start using next week at work.
Experience is June 4-5 in Roanoke, Va. This year’s focus is on ENDURANCE. Your career isn’t a sprint; it’s a marathon. In order to finish the race, you need tools to grow through personal and professional challenges. You’ll find that at Experience 2020.
Kristen is the Clinical Safety Systems Manager with Quality and Patient Safety at Carilion Clinic. She is a Certified Professional in Patient Safety (CPPS), certified Project Management Professional (PMP) and candidate for Masters in Healthcare Administration at the University of Minnesota. Kristen’s previous roles included Process Improvement and Certified Project Manager.
In her almost five years at Carilion, she has led many system-level projects that touched not only staff but the patients as well. She led the upgrade for the system-wide patient safety event reporting system, multiple system upgrades that were sponsored by her department and built an effective analytics support team for QPS. Outside of work, she had volunteered the last 6 years with the local PMI Chapter running events and supporting the membership’s growth. She has also been involved with Leadership Roanoke Valley as both a participant and advisor.
Kristen is a trained Industrial and Systems Engineer from Virginia Tech. She had worked in numerous manufacturing and distribution roles before finding her passion for healthcare. Outside of work, she is an avid runner and finished her first ultra-marathon, the Blue Ridge Double (52.4 miles). She enjoys rock climbing and snow skiing since both are popular in the area. She brought you the 2019 lunch and learn session on project management and looks forward to being a part of this great event!
