Faces of Experience: Tim Pohlad-Thomas

Experience committee members are involved in a variety of ways throughout the Roanoke Region.

Committee member Tim Pohlad-Thomas works at RIDE Solutions as an outreach and communications specialist, helping to make the region more bike-friendly. In his free time, he’s an outdoor enthusiast and father of two who spends many of his days hiking or camping.

In his first year on the Experience committee, Tim was instrumental in helping launch the Outside series, pulling together his love for the outdoors and a little professional development.

Experience 2019 is June 6-7 at the Taubman Museum. (Sign up to be first to know when registration opens.) Although Tim is in his first year on the committee, he’s excited to make Roanoke even better.

Here are 3 questions with committee member Tim Pohlad-Thomas:

What’s your favorite thing about being on the Experience committee?

Even though I have only been on the Experience committee for a short time, I have worked with other planning committees before and my favorite part is the diverse backgrounds that committee members come from. While it is possible to plan something good with a group of similar people, you can end up with something amazing if you have a group of very different people.

What’s the best thing about your job?

The thing I love most about my job is the ability to help people find a better way to work every day. Whether that is helping them become more comfortable on their daily bike commute, converting from a driver to a bus rider or getting them involved in a daily carpool, my job gives me the opportunity to improve others’ quality of life, and it doesn’t get much better than that.

What super power would you like to have?

I would like to be able to control the speed of time. This would allow me to slow down time during moments I want to get the most out of and speed through waiting for the next incredible moment!
